This summer I wanted to challenge myself. I've always wanted to composing music, but never knew how to start.
So I started small. I gave myself this prompt: write a short waltz that sounds like trash.
Part of it was to give myself permission to write something "bad." It's important to let yourself create, without judgment, because otherwise you wouldn't create anything in the first place.

One day, I was walking home from work when I passed by an alleyway with a dumpster. Then it clicked. Why not take inspiration from my surroundings for my art?
Originally, this piece was supposed to be on piano, but I got too lazy to walk over to a piano everyday. Some days, I don't feel like dragging my ass to the piano bench, so I grab my guitar instead. Hence why Dumpster Waltz ended up being a guitar piece.
This project also forced me to learn a new video editing software. iMovie didn't let me position the sheet music where I wanted, so I looked up some free alternative softwares.
Most people on Reddit suggested DaVinci Resolve, so I downloaded it and followed this helpful tutorial. Turned out to be a life-saver. I'm gladly never going back to iMovie again.
